D'Tandoor / Bombay Palace

Cuisine: Indian
Location: Como

Note: Has now closed

Note: This used to be called D’Tandoor but is now known as Bombay Palace

My parents had discovered this place so we decided to go there for my dad’s birthday given he loves Indian food. In the past, most of the Indian restaurants I’ve eaten at have been disappointing. The Indian food my family cooks is far better. I’m disappointed when some food reviewer raves on about some Indian place and then you go and try it and it’s not authentic. Unfortunately, Aussies wouldn’t know what good Indian food is and so such places can continue to cook food that is not truly representative of India, although Indian food is extremely diverse.

Hopefully this place would be good. We went on Sunday to the South Perth location (one in Leederville too) which overlooks the Kwinana Freeway and the lovely Swan River in between the palm trees. We got there early and the place was a bit quiet but the staff are friendly and the inside of the restaurant is pleasant and relaxing. We had decided to go for the smorgasbord which was $17 a head. I really enjoyed the butter chicken and the rest of the offerings were enjoyable. There’s not a huge range but what was provided was great. Better than having a large range which is poor.

Verdict: There’s nothing fancy about the place but the food is honest and you come away with a satisfying feeling. Excellent value.

Restaurant Rating System

It's subjective but I base my reviews on 4 key areas:

Price: Bargain > Reasonable > Moderately Expensive > Expensive
Taste: Poor > Average > Great > Delicious
Value: Poor > Good > Reasonable > Excellent
Recommendation: Eat At Home Instead > Try Once If You Want But Not Worth Visiting Again > Worth Visiting > Recommend > Highly Recommend

The final recommendation will consider the price, taste and value. Value will be based on price and other factors like service and serving size.
