Being stuck in the office all day caused me to get out at lunch and just take a stroll around the block to get some fresh air and sunlight. While walking down Barrack Street and not far from Murray Street, I passed this Asian place which caught my eye. I walked back and had a look at the lunch time specials which were more than reasonable at around $12-13.
After my holiday, I was catching up with a few ex-colleagues and suggested lunch here to which they were in agreement. Arirang does Korean BBQ and other Asian dishes. We grabbed our seats at the table and noticed they have those gas stoves in the middle of the table. One member of my party had come here previously some years ago and informed me that you get to choose your ingredients and cook it yourself.
Today, however, we were opting for the lunch specials which are cooked for us. There’s quite a nice selection on the menu and you can pay a few bucks more for the “set”. I can’t really describe what this is except you get little bowls of various things, mainly pickled. I opted for the fish set for $14.50 which came with:
- 3 pieces of lovely crispy and lightly battered fish with a lovely sauce in amongst shredded cabbage
- A delicious bowl of miso soup
- Bowl of steamed rice
- Pickled cabbage
- Pickled cucumbers
- Pickled beansprouts
An assortment of goodies, really nice.
Apart from the lunch specials, they also have their regular menu.
Arirang Food Review Summary
Verdict: To be honest I was more engrossed explaining my holiday travels and listening to what’s been happening than focussing on the food. I apologise, this will never happen again. Food is the #1 priority. Nonetheless, the meal was simple, tasty, and came with a nice variety of different things. I really enjoyed the miso soup in particular.
