Northbridge Chinese - 24 Jul 2011

Cuisine: Chinese, yum cha/dim sim
Location: Northbridge, Roe St

I have a more recent food review of Northbridge Chinese here.

Given there are numerous restaurants in Northbridge, particularly of an Asian flavour, I thought it would be nice to try some of the other restaurants apart from those we’ve been too. Today, the family went out to lunch for dim sum at Northbridge Chinese. Parking is difficult so we settled on the paid parking which was close by to the restaurant on Roe St. I guess one could even catch the train and then walk across. Despite the crowd of people, we managed to get our ticket called out reasonable quickly and were taken to our table. The inside of the restaurant is bright and spacious but not as large as Dragon Palace for example. The place was packed with plenty of people all about carrying trays of food and pushing trolleys of steamed Chinese delights. The trolleys came around quickly so by the time we grabbed a few meals of this and a bit of that, our table was very full and so were we in a short time! There’s quite a selection to choose from and all were tasty and generous in filling. Some of the dishes we had were (excuse me if I get the names wrong but hopefully you will get the gist of what we ordered):

  • BBQ Pork Buns
  • BBQ Roast Duck
  • Prawn in Rice Flour Pancakes
  • Steamed Prawn Dumplings
  • Steamed Scallop Dumplings
  • Prawn Seaweed Rolls
  • Steamed Pork Dumplings
  • Prawn Toasts
  • Prawn Packages
  • Deep Fried Prawns with Mayonnaise
  • Mango Pudding
  • Custard Egg Tarts
  • Sago

During our meal, there were heaps of dishes we missed out on. I guess we will have to come by again to try some more!

Northbridge Chinese Food Review Summary

Verdict: My family and I really enjoyed each of the dishes we ordered which were tasty and generous in filling. The place was clean and presentable and the service was fast and efficient. Another standout dim sum restaurant. Come well before 12pm as this place is popular.
Price: Bargain

Restaurant Rating System

It's subjective but I base my reviews on 4 key areas:

Price: Bargain > Reasonable > Moderately Expensive > Expensive
Taste: Poor > Average > Great > Delicious
Value: Poor > Good > Reasonable > Excellent
Recommendation: Eat At Home Instead > Try Once If You Want But Not Worth Visiting Again > Worth Visiting > Recommend > Highly Recommend

The final recommendation will consider the price, taste and value. Value will be based on price and other factors like service and serving size.
