S & T Thai Gourmet Cafe

Cuisine: Thai
Location: Northbridge, William Street

I have a more recent food review of S & T Thai Gourmet Cafe.

One of my work colleagues had told me about this place so I was keen to try something different given our prior visits to Northbridge of late have been centred on dim sim. I was lucky to get a last minute booking on Father’s Day so the family went for lunch. Walking in, the place is quite small which explained why the place was booked out, simple and clean. Sitting at our table, there is an electronic device to buzz for service, water, or the bill. I haven’t seen this before at any restaurant I’ve been to. One thing which was surprising was how quickly the food came to our table after ordering. The service was quick, efficient and helpful. We started off with a crispy oyster pancake which was delicious. I’ve never eaten something like this before. It was quite large, crispy and not like a breakfast pancake, but was like a slightly glutinous mix encasing bean sprouts and spring onions, with oysters in the centre. A nice sauce went well with the dish and rounded off the flavour balance.

For mains we went with steamed rice, fried rice with seafood, green curry with pork, and pad thai with chicken. With several of the dishes, you have the choice of what meats you want – chicken, beef, pork, seafood. The pad thai was delicious and not too sweet. The noodles were perfectly cooked and had a lovely texture. The flavours were delicious with a nice sprinkling of chicken, crushed peanuts, a wedge of lemon to add acidity, and the crunch of bean sprouts to add texture. The fried rice was flavoursome with a generous offering of seafood mixed throughout the dish – large chunky prawns, tender scallops, tender squid, and large mussels although the one I had was chewy. To finish, I had some steamed white rice with the green pork curry. Lots of thinly sliced pieces of pork which were quite tender and had a little bite (hotness) was immersed in the creamy curry. I really enjoyed the curry and it’s flavours. Several people in reviews of this restaurant have mentioned the food is really hot though I, nor my family, encountered any such experience. Maybe certain dishes are really hot but the food was just delicious for me.

Food Review Summary

Verdict: My family and I really enjoyed each of the dishes we ordered which was tasty. The place was clean and presentable and the service was fast and efficient. The servings are large and generous. I certainly would like to come back to try some other dishes. The value is excellent. Bookings essential.

Restaurant Rating System

It's subjective but I base my reviews on 4 key areas:

Price: Bargain > Reasonable > Moderately Expensive > Expensive
Taste: Poor > Average > Great > Delicious
Value: Poor > Good > Reasonable > Excellent
Recommendation: Eat At Home Instead > Try Once If You Want But Not Worth Visiting Again > Worth Visiting > Recommend > Highly Recommend

The final recommendation will consider the price, taste and value. Value will be based on price and other factors like service and serving size.
