Etro Bistro & Bar - 18 Jul 2012

Cuisine: Modern Australian, Breakfast
Location: Perth CBD, King St

I was searching for a breakfast venue to host a team lunch and finally settled on Etro Bistro & Bar. I haven’t visited for several years where I last enjoyed lunch. On the ground floor level is the bistro and on the roof top is the bar. It was a freezing cold winter’s morning so I was happy to enter the pleasant interior of the restaurant and be shielded from the elements. Etro’s has a good range of breakfast items on the menu which I thought would be suitable for a range of taste’s. To be honest, I’m not a fan of eggs (scrambled, fried, poached, boiled etc) so was looking for something which I might enjoy and was happy to see crepes on the menu.

I started with a mocha and ordered crepes with Nutella sauce and an extra side of whipped cream for my breakfast. The mocha was hot and tasty but had a slight bitterish coffee flavour. I preferred the Greenhouse version I enjoyed yesterday. After a reasonable wait, a white rectangular plate was presented. To the far left was a small deep dish of whipped cream. Next door were two crepes arranged in a criss cross fashion. A small dish of Nutella chocolate sauce was to the right and above that were two mint leaves with two strawberry halves rounded out by a dusting of sugar.

The crepes were light and thin. With a smudge of chocolate sauce and a dollop of cream on each fork full, I enjoyed my breakfast. The mint and strawberries are lovely too. It’s a simple breakfast but all elements were as they should be so I was happy and made for a good start to the day.

Etro Food Review Summary

Verdict: I enjoyed the mocha on a cold winter’s day and the light, thin, fluffy crepes were delicious. With a bit of chocolate sauce and cream, what a great start to the day. It’s a pleasant setting and the service is lovely. Worth dropping by for breakfast.

Restaurant Rating System

It's subjective but I base my reviews on 4 key areas:

Price: Bargain > Reasonable > Moderately Expensive > Expensive
Taste: Poor > Average > Great > Delicious
Value: Poor > Good > Reasonable > Excellent
Recommendation: Eat At Home Instead > Try Once If You Want But Not Worth Visiting Again > Worth Visiting > Recommend > Highly Recommend

The final recommendation will consider the price, taste and value. Value will be based on price and other factors like service and serving size.
