I was privileged to receive an invitation to the media launch of the Italian Cooking Master Class by Accento and ICCI on Monday 6th May 2013. I jumped at the chance as I love Italian food and was keen to see some of Perth’s Italian chefs in action demonstrating their skills and getting a taste of some of the delicious dishes possibly demonstrated in the forthcoming cooking classes. In a 6 part series starting with Giuseppe Pagliaricci of Perugino Restaurant on May 20th, 6 acclaimed Italian chefs will teach you the ins and outs of preparing delicious Italian food accompanied by Italian wines. The classes are held at the Accento showrooms in Claremont and organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce & Industry. More details are at the end of this post.

Each of the chefs’ restaurants have earned the stamp of approval from the Italian government via the Ospitalità Italiana certification.  Very strict guidelines are required to earn this honour and include:

  • Use of certified ingredients of Italian origin
  • The presence of personnel able to interact with clients in Italian and other typical Italian elements
  • Menu and wine list that contain traditional and certified products including extra virgin olive oil
  • At least one person in the kitchen who can attest experience and proficiency in Italian cooking

Now it would be remiss to gloss over the night which was nothing short of amazing. It may have been a media launch but it felt like one was at home at an Italian mama’s place. I was expecting a handful of canapés but we were treated to a feast. See the menu below.

Well the night was excellent. It was great to mingle amongst several bloggers, guests, and chefs at the event. But I have to say, how amazing was the food? I thought it would never stop! Each dish served was more delicious than the first. A classic example of generous Italian hospitality, a never ending supply of food (who ever goes hungry at an Italian’s place?), and of course, a classic example of such delicious Italian food on offer. If this is what’s served, I sure hope I can cook like the chefs do after these classes!

It's subjective but I base my reviews on 4 key areas:

Price: Bargain > Reasonable > Moderately Expensive > Expensive
Taste: Poor > Average > Great > Delicious
Value: Poor > Good > Reasonable > Excellent
Recommendation: Eat At Home Instead > Try Once If You Want But Not Worth Visiting Again > Worth Visiting > Recommend > Highly Recommend

The final recommendation will consider the price, taste and value. Value will be based on price and other factors like service and serving size.
