Stuzzico - 16 May 2013

Cuisine: Pizza, Italian
Location: Perth CBD & other locations

Lately I’ve extended my lunch time walks to get out of the office, stretch the legs, get some exercise, and explore more of Perth. Along this journey I’ve discovered a few more eateries I hope to try out, one being Stuzzico, an Italian eatery that serves pizza by the slice. I love pizza so I made a visit for lunch today and ordered 2 slices at $5 each:

  • Ham – tomato base, mozzarella, and ham
  • Rocket/Prosciutto – Tomato base, Whole egg mayonnaise, Rocket, Prosciutto, Grated Parmesan, Salt, Pepper, Extra virgin olive oil

There was a bit of a wait for the ham while it was being freshly prepared which turned out to be great timing as I got a slice from a freshly made pizza pulled straight out of the oven. From their website, they have a spiel about an Italian baker that didn’t have the pizzeria oven so made a flat bread that is cooked slowly. Since their is no oil in the pan, it’s also healthier. Well I have to agree that my pizza’s were certainly not oily. The only oil present was from the glistening ham and melted mozzarella cheese. The ham pizza was delicious. I love the gooey stringy mozzarella and the base is so light, crispy and tasty. The other pizza was also interesting. I expected a bitter flavour from the rocket but the presence of mayonnaise presents a richness that counteracts any bitterness and then a thin slice of proscuitto gives a little more body to the meal. This pizza wasn’t warmed up as the fresh rocket would wilt.

Stuzzico Food Review Summary

Verdict: I really enjoyed the pizza’s in the dine out area by the street. There isn’t a dine in area but they offer free wifi and a PC. The pizza base is thin, light and crispy while the simple combination of ingredients work a treat in the different variety of pizza’s on offer. I really enjoyed eating the freshly prepared out of the oven slice of ham pizza. The room temperature rocket and proscuitto pizza was also delicious and presented a very different contrast. Most slices are $5 each and they also offer coffee, panini’s and a few pasta dishes. If you’re after a quick lunch time meal that is a bargain, then head to Stuzzico.

Restaurant Rating System

It's subjective but I base my reviews on 4 key areas:

Price: Bargain > Reasonable > Moderately Expensive > Expensive
Taste: Poor > Average > Great > Delicious
Value: Poor > Good > Reasonable > Excellent
Recommendation: Eat At Home Instead > Try Once If You Want But Not Worth Visiting Again > Worth Visiting > Recommend > Highly Recommend

The final recommendation will consider the price, taste and value. Value will be based on price and other factors like service and serving size.
