I was back at The Cutting Board Eathouse to try some more American fare. It was a lovely sunny day and the lunch time crowd had subsided temporary. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the counter staff eagerly waiting to take orders. On the two occasions I have visited the friendly service has stood out. I like the vibe of this place and can see why it’s popular. They have a menu catering to all kinds of tastes with salads, wraps, sandwiches, and then freshly prepared meals from the menu like burgers. There’s also a hot display cabinet containing slow cooked pulled pork and beef, and glazed honey ham to be combined in to a tasty treat like the pulled pork roll I ate last week. They also serve breakfast too.
Today, I looked at the menu for a moment and decided to order the New Yorker burger – 2 beef patties, cheese, lettuce, pickles, onion, and their special mayo mixture. It only costs $12 and if two patties is too much for you, they’ve got a regular burger for just $10. I also spied southern chicken so I asked if that was southern fried chicken? The answer is yes. So excited the guy at the counter asked if I wanted that instead. I declined but said I’ll come back to try that.
Since it was such a lovely day I decided to dine in, or should I say out, and took a number and grabbed a table under the umbrellas outside. Shame I was shielded from the lovely sunshine but it was pleasant to be sitting outside in comfortable surrounds. After a reasonable wait, one of the waitstaff came to my table and presented me with my order. Completely salivating by now, I dispensed with the knife and pulled out the skewer, scrunched the burger together and took a big bite. Delicious! The beef patties were well cooked, seasoned and flavoured. Really tasty. I love the cheese which was pretty close to, if not, American cheddar. When I was in the US, the American cheddar has a very distinctive smoky taste. I’m really missing it but one bite of this burger and fond memories came rushing back. The salad is pretty simple with just lettuce but the mayo they stick on there is really nice. The bun is lightly toasted and delicious too. I usually order chips but chips are really filling just on their own so I just enjoyed the burger and was totally satisfied.
The Cutting Board Food Review Summary
Verdict: After my first visit I had to come back to try the New York double pattie cheeseburger and it didn’t disappoint. Perfectly cooked beef patties, well seasoned, great flavour and I love the cheddar slices. The burger holds well together and is not messy but just tasty. I love the bun and the mayo was lovely. I’m really enjoying the menu offerings and have to come back for some more delicious dishes served by friendly people in a lovely setting. To boot, the menu offerings are reasonably priced and offer excellent value.
