Cuisine: Chocolatier, Dessert, Breakfast, Cafe
Location: Karawara, Waterford Plaza opposite Curtin University
Today our team had a volunteering day so before the day kicked off, we caught up at Theobroma Chocolate Lounge for breakfast. I’d previously visited Theobroma some years ago especially for the chocolate. The cafe is a chocolatier selling a variety of hand made chocolates. When you enter and head towards the counter, on the far left is the chocolate display. To the right is a macaron display and the cafe offers all day breakfasts, sandwiches, baguettes, BLTs, burgers, dessert items, coffee, and hot chocolate. After having a look at the menu I chose the waffles which come drizzled with thick melted chocolate sauce. For $2 extra you can get strawberries, grilled banana, or as I chose, ice cream.
I think a table of six may have been a little too much for the kitchen as it took a while for the meals to be served, some a lot longer than others. Fortunately mine was served reasonably early in the piece which was a good thing as I was hungry. Breakfast at 9am is pretty late for me on a work day. I dove in and enjoyed the waffles which were lovely. The melted chocolate sauce was delicious but it had cooled instantly once hitting the ice cream and hardened. The ice cream makes the waffles even tastier. It’s a fantastic start to the day and pretty cheap too. However, the serve of waffles isn’t full size though which was good as I also ordered a hot chocolate made with milk chocolate. You can have dark chocolate instead or see the other varieties available. I enjoyed the hot chocolate which wasn’t too milky nor too thick and chocolatey. Mind you, the hot chocolate at Koko Black is extremely chocolatey, so much so that your throat begins to clasp shut which is why they also give you a glass of water to loosen the throat again. Different experiences but this version was more hot chocolate than liquid chocolate.
Theobroma Food Review Summary
Verdict: Second time visit to Theobroma Chocolate Lounge, but this time for the food. I ordered waffles with ice cream and also a hot chocolate for breakfast. The waffles were delicious, contained ample delicious thick melted chocolate, and was topped off with the scoops of vanilla ice cream. I certainly brought a little bit of food envy around the table and it tasted as good as it looked. Very indulgent. I also had a hot chocolate made with milk chocolate and it was delicious. Not too milky or too chocolatey, just right. A great start to the day at Theobroma.
