Last week I visited Koko Black to try one of the two items introduced on the Summer Oasis range of desserts – salted caramel iced chocolate. Today I returned to try the other: mango and vanilla ice cream spectacular. Another really busy day at work and on a hot summer’s day, what better way to pop out of the office and enjoy something special from Koko Black.
Mango and Vanilla Ice Cream Spectacular $9.50
Vanilla bean ice cream, mango coulis and caramelised coconut crumble
The mango coulis is served separate in a little jug with the rest of the dessert served in a glass. The coconut crumble sits on the bottom, covered with some mango coulis, then the vanilla flecked ice cream on top, and wafers of crystallised caramel for a different sweetness and crunch above that. I had a taste of the mango coulis with my spoon which is light and carries a lovely refreshing mango flavour. I then proceeded to pour that over the dessert, reserving some for later.
It mixes in nicely with the dessert, combining with the creamy vanilla ice cream, and the crunch of the coconut crumble. It’s a very enjoyable and refreshing dessert perfect for summer. I really enjoyed the mango coulis which starts to taste a bit like mango kulfi when it’s super cold and mixed in with the melting ice cream.
Koko Black Food Review Summary
Verdict: Koko Black’s new Summer Oasis range introduces patrons to two new items – salted caramel iced chocolate and, mango and vanilla ice cream spectacular. Today I returned to try the latter after enjoying the former last week. A very tasty, vanilla flecked ice cream combines superbly with the delicious refreshing mango coulis. The crunch provided by the caramelised wafer on top of the ice cream and the crunch of the coconut crumble at the base of the glass add different textures, flavours, and levels of sweetness to make this an excellent dessert for summer. I really enjoyed it.
