I didn’t attend last year’s inaugural Taste of Perth foodie event but this year I’ll be going. I was also fortunate to receive a backstage pass to a ‘Taste of Tour’ event which would give us a sneak peak of what some of the restaurant’s of the event will have […]
For me the highlight of the meal was dessert where I loved the cherry and chocolate naan with vanilla ice cream. The creamy pepper chicken carried a completely different flavour to the other dishes I have eaten here previously. In contrast to the rich creamy chicken, the Achari gosht contained a fair pungency and was a very tasty lamb curry. The entrees were also excellent. Another excellent night out enjoying tasty flavoursome Indian cuisine.
Another visit to Shiro to try one of their lunch sets and they don’t disappoint. I like the variety, quality, taste, and presentation. It’s excellent value for money and will leave you comfortably full. On today’s outing I enjoyed the pork belly set which served lots of tender pork belly immersed in a delicious sauce which made the rice so delicious. I like the variety of the set with a delicious warming miso soup, fresh salad with a delicious dressing to liven up the greens, and today I went for the sushi which had soft shell crab which was tasty.

Recipe Restaurant offers patrons Persian cuisine, particularly skewered meats, but they also have pasta and risotto dishes, plus seafood and burgers for the Western palette. Overlooking Langley Park and the beautiful Swan River, one can enjoy a plate packed with food for the highish price tag. We ordered chicken, beef and lamb skewered meats to share amongst ourselves but while they were tender, they were quite bland, lacking spice, or flavour from whatever the meats were skewered over (e.g. grill or coals). Maybe the skewered meats are cooked just like in Persia, but I was expecting far more flavour. The loose grained rice is nice, the barbecued chilli packs some heat, the grilled tomatoes help cool your mouth as too the Shirazi salad. The entree of roasted eggplant was nice with delicious Turkish bread and the Persian style profiteroles with sweetened cream were good but I prefer the French variety. For my palette, I want far more flavour and Recipe didn’t deliver on that front.
I headed especially to The Trustee to try their dessert degustation. Before I started, I ordered the pork belly parcels which served up tender pork belly oozing the unmistakeable flavour that only pork belly can offer, surrounded by crunchy pastry and a blob of cranberry sauce. This was well paired with a delicious apple and red cabbage salad. Then it was on to the dessert degustation consisting of 5 courses. I loved the wattleseed and caramel ice cream, not so much the quince with pear tart. The lychee granita was so refreshing and enjoyed thoroughly with the rosewater panna cotta. The snickers bar was absolutely amazing along with the vanilla ice cream wafer. Lastly, the spearmint macaron and spearmint vanilla flavoured milkshake was an excellent finish to the meal. I love the dessert degustation which offers lots of variety, quality, execution, and taste. Five courses for $24 is well worth it, mind you, after the fourth course I was done. Plenty to keep you happy.
A degustation at Restaurant Amuse will place you in an environment perfect for any special occasion accompanied by professional service, quality food, perfect execution, and delicious taste. I felt the balance of some dishes were out of whack, an example being the beef dish which was far too creamy, and this coming from a person who likes creamy and rich food. The very creamy element seemed to be a common thread through several dishes which needs to be tempered and differentiated. Aside from that I liked the Spanish stuffed pepper with goats cheese, the nashi pear with grated turnip and cheddar cheese was an excellent pairing, the marron dish was excellent but the star of the night was the duck. What a fantastic dish paired with creamy cauliflower purée and bitter kohlrabi. Excellent experience. So full!

Bali Modern Cuisine is a family run restaurant opposite Bentley Plaza and has a simple interior. For those who have been to Bali, they also have Balinese items on display for sale. Obtaining a takeaway order can hurt the original preparation of the food like some of the fried items I purchased so I can’t hold that against them. I was rather amused to receive quite a nice carry bag containing the takeaway items. The flavour of the food is delicious. I really liked the fried chicken coated in sambal, the fried duck with Bali modern sauce, and the beef rendang. The gado gado was pretty tasty and so too the potato fritter which is pretty small. The ice cendol was refreshing but contained ice cubs rather than shaved ice which took away from the drink. Excellent Indonesian flavours and a large variety of cheaply priced dishes to choose from.
