Shiro Izakaya – 24 Apr 2015

Cuisine: Japanese
Location: Perth CBD, Central Park

A new member to the team is enough of an excuse for a team lunch so we headed to Shiro Izakaya. We again went for the affordable lunch time sets which range from $19 – $25 and offer vegetarian, beef, chicken, pork and salmon. Each set is served with the following:

  • Garden salad
  • Miso soup
  • A choice of entree from sashimi, tempura, or maki roll

Pork Belly Set with Soft Shell Crab Sushi

Shiro - Pork Belly Set

Shiro – Pork Belly Set

Last time I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken katsu set, today, it’s the pork belly set. The sushi for today’s offering is soft shell crab which immediately swung me from my initial choice of sashimi as I love soft shell crab but wasn’t sure how that would go in sushi. Once again, Shiro continues to serve up quality fare which livens up the taste buds. Plenty of tender pork belly was served, not very much fat though, which was a little disappointing as I was expecting some rendered fat but this was a different version. I’m not sure what sauce they concoct but it’s absolutely delicious and makes the plain old steamed rice so yum. I like the miso soup and the salad is fresh with a delicious dressing. As for the sushi, it’s a little bit hard to enjoy the soft shell crab when it’s encased in sushi but it’s still delicious. I’d prefer the soft shell crab on it’s own. A quick poll of team members and they also enjoyed their meals.

Shiro Izakaya Food Review Summary

Verdict: Another visit to Shiro to try one of their lunch sets and they don’t disappoint. I like the variety, quality, taste, and presentation. It’s excellent value for money and will leave you comfortably full. On today’s outing I enjoyed the pork belly set which served lots of tender pork belly immersed in a delicious sauce which made the rice so delicious. I like the variety of the set with a delicious warming miso soup, fresh salad with a delicious dressing to liven up the greens, and today I went for the sushi which had soft shell crab which was tasty.
