I’ve visited Ribs & Burgers previously enjoying the delicious baby backed pork ribs and also the lemon and herb lamb ribs. But I’ve yet to try their burgers which by all accounts I’ve heard are delicious. I popped out at lunchtime where the line was clinging to the front while it bucketed down with rain. Gas heaters kept us comfy and warm but the line moved slowly. After 20 or so minutes I was able to place my take away order as there wasn’t a spare seat in the house. They had to halt the line from further orders till tables were free. Another 20 minutes passed by as the kitchen frantically kept pumping out the order dockets. I got my order and retired to my desk to enjoy lunch. Except there were no serviettes in the bag.
Old School Cheese Burger $10.50 and Onion Rings $6
Beef mince patty, American cheese, mustard, pickles, onion, BBQ, and home-made aioli sauce
The onion rings looked like soft shell crab, not exactly like rings. Nonetheless, they tasted delicious, maximising surface area in which batter could cling on to the onion before being deep fried. No complaints from me! Nice and crunchy and just a tad over seasoned but really yummy. Though they’ve got nothing on Jus Burgers famed onion rings. That is the benchmark.
I picked the burger up which seemed a bit small but in the end was well packed. The bun was cold even though I saw it go through a warmer or toasting device. The contents of the burger were luke warm at best. I had been watching the kitchen and I don’t think they timed the cooking of the onion rings and burger at the same time. The burger must have sat in the bag first.
After the first bite I wasn’t exactly overwhelmed. Dominated by the slight slight sourness of the mustard, the underseasoned beef patty did not shine through. The patty was pink in the middle, a touch raw in some areas, and lacked any real flavour. The American cheese was tasty and I also liked the sesame seed bun. I thought the burger was rather disappointing in the end and far behind anything offered by the gourmet burger joints like Grill’d or Jus Burgers.
Ribs & Burgers Food Review Summary
Verdict: I visited to try the burgers after prior visits where I enjoyed the ribs. I ordered the Old School Cheese burger. I also got some onion rings which were not rings, looked more like soft shell crab, but were tasty. The American cheese in the burger shines through but is dominated by the sourness of the mustard. The sesame seed bun was tasty though cold, as were the contents of the burger which were luke warm at best. The beef patty was pink and a bit raw in places, lacking seasoning and flavour. I found the burger rather underwhelming and would recommend the gourmet burger joints like Grill’d or Jus Burgers as a better alternative. Come here for the ribs, especially the baby backed pork ribs.
Recommendation: Worth Visiting Again
