Since coming back from Japan I didn’t realise how much I missed matcha. Matcha is green tea powder which is used in matcha ice cream, matcha cakes, matcha everything! Yep, I got my hands on a lot of matcha related items and I loved it. Till my holiday ended. I’m really regretting not buying some matcha powder when I had the opportunity but fortunately there are sites which sell them and I happened to find an online site based right here in Perth, an Australian business called Matcha Tea Co. They distribute premium 100% organic Matcha Green Tea powder straight from Japan and they were kind enough to send me a free sample to try out.
One of the things I fell in love with was matcha green tea latte. OMG! I discovered it on the second day at our hotel’s breakfast buffet and it was amazing! Absolutely loved it and what a great way to start the day! Matcha carries the green tea flavour but also has a slight sweetness so while I’m not a tea drinker, the match flavour is really tasty and excellent in a variety of food or drinks.
Now, how do they make matcha green tea latte? Thank goodness for YouTube where you can watch the video below to see what to do.
It’s really easy so I gave it a go and I recommend using a 3/4 of a teaspoon of the matcha powder as it can be a bit strong but tailor it to your tastes.
Here’s my version which tasted really good.
I didn’t realise that green tea also has significant health benefits and is also a superfood. I just liked the taste! Usually the really healthy stuff isn’t that flavourful. Not true with matcha.
Green tea has the following health benefits:
- Full of antioxidants (way more than most foods like goji berries, another superfood)
- Helps burn fat by speeding up your metabolism
- Boosts energy
- Lowers cholesterol
- Stress reliever
- Increases mental alertness
- Helps the skin improve elasticity
- Natural detoxifier
- Boosts your immune system
There’s lots of matcha green tea recipes out there so apart from enjoying a cup of green tea or latte, you can use it in cakes, muffins, milkshakes, ice cream, popsicles, brownies, puddings and cookies.
While there are several sites selling matcha, they vary in quality and grade, which dictates price. Fortunately Matcha Tea Co doesn’t skimp on quality and a quick Google search of Australian online matcha shops generally carried considerably higher prices for the same or less quantity. Matcha Tea Co only carries premium 100% organic Matcha Green Tea powder sourced straight from Japan. See below for their details and they also offer free shipping.
