The great thing about the Twliight Hawkers Markets in Forrest Chase is being able to try different cultures cuisines. One stall which also is calls home at the Fremantle Markets, is Arepa WA, specialising in Venuzalean food. I first ate one of their creations, an arepa, here at the Twliight Hawkers Markets and loved it.

Twilight Hawkers Markets – Arepa Stall: Tostons

Twilight Hawkers Markets: Arepa - Tostons

Last week I ate tostons, served as a pair. The tostons comprise a deep fried plantain base, one topped with shredded beef, the other shredded chicken, cheese, lettuce, guacamole, and sauce. What a delicious creation! Lovely crunchy plantain base with a flavour explosion, moistness, sauce, meat, more sauce. Oh yum. Loved it!

Twilight Hawkers Markets – Arepa Stall: Cachapa

Twilight Hawkers Markets - Arepa WA: Cachapa

This week I went back to the same stall to try another of Arepa’s creations – cachapa. This dish comprises of a corn and plantain base, topped with shredded beef, (I asked also for black beans), cheese, and guacamole. Really filling and interesting. There’s a slight touch of sweetness from the banana, a touch of richness from the corn, lovely flavour from the shredded beef, body from the beans, and a refreshing sensation from the guacamole. Yummy!

Twilight hawkers markets are open every Friday till 29 April 2016, so make sure you head down to Forrest Chase between 4:30-9:30pm to sample some cuisines from various cultures. It’s cash only and remember that these are not necessarily professional kitchens, you might need to have some patience while your meal is prepared, especially if there are long queues, so get in early and enjoy.
