Tater Tots with choice of sauce (blue cheese for me) $4
I’ve not eaten tater tots before so there’s a first time for everything. They’re like hash browns. Crunchy on the outside, not oily, light and soft potato on the inside. I’m not a big fan of hash browns so I won’t hold this dish against RoyAl’s but they were pretty tasty with the blue cheese sauce. A different alternative to chips but a good side dish.
Chicken RoyAl Burger $12
Boneless fried thigh fillet, fancy sauce, iceburg, tomato
An actual chunk of chicken thigh fillet cooked nice and tender, light crunchy crispy coating, tasty sauce combining with the lettuce and tomato. I like the shiny gloss on top of the bun. Really tasty burger.
Cronut filled with chocolate custard, cherry ripe and ice cream $9.50
What an inviting creation! Tastes so good even though it’s so bad! The cronut has that mix of soft croissant pastry with bits of saltiness while still having that doughnut flavour. As a chunk of tasty dough which is rich and buttery, combining it with the ice cream, chocolate custard, and the cherry ripe are the perfect partners to make each bite really yum. I liked it.
RoyAl’s Food Review Summary
Verdict: RoyAl’s Chicken & Burgers is a casual dining American styled eatery serving burgers, buttermilk fried chicken, tater tots, mac & cheese, and shakes among American classics on their menu. Not gourmet, but not greasy fast food, this is something in between. Good honest food that will satisfy. I got the chicken RoyAl burger which had a lovely shiny gloss on the top of the bun. Biting in, there’s an actual chunk of perfectly moist chicken thigh covered in a crispy crunchy coating. The fancy sauce does the trick in livening up the lettuce and tomato, making the combination of ingredients in each bite one to enjoy. I also got a side of tater tots which I’ve never eaten before. They’re like nugget sized hash browns, nice and crunchy on the outside, soft potato on the inside. A nice accompaniment to my burger. I was eyeing desserts but the pecan pie is no longer so I went with the cronut filled with chocolate custard, ice cream atop and cherry ripe. Decadent, indulgent, naughty, and so bad, yet so good. Yes, this dessert has it all. The rich buttery croissant with salty explosions and the doughnut feel combines perfectly with the ingredients to work together in creating a tasty morsel with each bite. So yum, so full with a friendly bunch of guys to make the visit one to enjoy.
