Royal Siam Thai - Red Curry

Royal Siam Kitchen offers up a range of curry and noodle dishes for lunch and an expanded menu for dinner which includes entrees and desserts. I love red curry so I chose that and throughly enjoyed the meal. The red curry has a delicious red curry flavour, slightly creamy, slightly sweet, a lovely blend of spices to deliver an authentic flavour. The meal is pretty filling and great value. Maybe I’ll have to pop in after work for dinner. A lovely Thai restaurant. . . . → Read More: Royal Siam Kitchen – 16 Jul 2014

Sawadee Thai Restaurant - 31 May 2014

Sawadee - Siam Chicken

I remember eating the best fried rice I’d ever eaten as a kid at Sawadee’s and while tonight’s dinner didn’t bring back the same memories, it still serves a very authentic fried rice which is among the best I’ve eaten in Perth. For entrees we enjoyed fish patties with a strong Thai basil flavour, and Siam Chicken which was mild and barbecued and required the sweet chilli sauce to provide some extra bang in flavour. The fried rice as mentioned was delicious, but the star of the meal was the masaman curry enjoyed with steamed rice. Lovely creamy coconut flavoured curry immersing chunks of tender beef and potatoes absorbing the flavours like a sponge, this dish was delicious. The pad thai was excellent too, a lovely sweet flavour was evident in the thin noodles enjoyed with chunks of chicken and prawns. The chicken with chilli and basil was not chilli hot but did carry some spiciness which contrasted nicely to the sweeter pad thai and creamy masaman curry. The tastes I had of the sago pudding and coconut ice cream were delicious, as too the sticky rice with custard in a not too sweet creamy coconut sauce. The flavours of the dishes were delicious and representative of Thai cuisine, but my only criticism would be the serving size which is more on the smaller size for what you’re paying. Hence, the dinner provides reasonable value but this becomes even better value if you have the Entertainment Book’s Gold Card which gives you 25% up to $30. . . . → Read More: Sawadee Thai Restaurant – 31 May 2014

Qld, Brisbane - Red & White Peruvian Restaurant - 2 May 2014

Red & White Peruvian - Tasting Peru

Take a relaxing walk from the CBD to Southbank and you will find Red and White Peruvian Restaurant, the only Peruvian restaurant in Brisbane. I had the tasting plate to start where there are smaller versions of 4 dishes from the entree menu. This gave variety and different flavours. I really liked the 2 ceviche dishes which were very different from each other, the octopus in a mushroom like olive sauce, and the milder potato and tuna dish which was a welcome relief to the stronger flavours of the other dishes. The Peruvian chilli is unique, not initially pungent, but providing some real burn that keeps building in the background. I had a Peruvian herbal drink, emoliente, which was interesting and quite tasty, providing relief to the chilli. It’s quite a filling drink too. For mains I really enjoyed the paella. Lots of seafood and I loved the succulent prawns and scallop. The white wine flavour provides a richness to the flavoursome paella. An absolute steal at just $22. I had an excellent experience and loved the food, but was really disappointed to walk away without dessert as I was too full. . . . → Read More: Qld, Brisbane – Red & White Peruvian Restaurant – 2 May 2014

S & T Thai Gourmet Cafe

Our second visit here was just as satisfying as the first. We tried a variety of dishes and were not disappointed. The chicken with capsicum and cashews was a real standout for me. We ordered a lot more and the bill was nearly double but we still had plenty to take home and I got some dessert too. Bookings essential. . . . → Read More: S & T Thai Gourmet Cafe – 18 Sep 2011

Chatters Cafe & Restaurant

You don’t know if you don’t try and there is huge gulf between Chatters and the typical dim sim places in Northbridge. For example, Dragon Palace leaves this place for dead in terms of price, flavour, taste, while the servings and fillings are generous. While the service was friendly we were full but left feeling very disappointed. Not sure what the al a carte is like. . . . → Read More: Chatters Cafe & Restaurant

Singapore - Por Jai Thai Restaurant

Papaya Salad

Not a place that we planned to eat at but the papaya salad was the highlight of the meal adding some really surprising flavours. The prawn fritters were solid and the fried rice was quite different but I prefer the more flavoursome fried rice you generally would be served at other establishments. The whole meal was just under $25 SGD which is really cheap for the two of us. The papaya salad is worth coming back for. . . . → Read More: Singapore – Por Jai Thai Restaurant
